MEDAN, August 7, 2026 – As part of its efforts to enhance quality, the Directorate of Quality Assurance of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a Socialization of the Accreditation Instrument on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Video Conference Room on the 4th Floor of the USU Rectorate Building in Medan.
The event commenced with remarks from the Manager of National Accreditation at the USU Quality Assurance Directorate, Prof. Dr. Drs. Jonner Hasugian, M.Si., who emphasized that USU's institutional accreditation validity period will expire on February 28, 2028. USU is required to submit its accreditation documents six months before the accreditation period ends, with the next institutional reaccreditation submission scheduled for August–September 2027. One of the requirements for achieving an Excellent accreditation status is that at least 50% of the university's total study programs must hold an Excellent/A accreditation status.
He expressed his hope that through the socialization of the LAMSAMA Accreditation Instrument, study programs within the natural sciences and formal sciences clusters would be able to transition smoothly to the new instrument, IAPS 3.0 / SALAM 3.0, and successfully secure an Excellent accreditation status.
The resource person for the event was Prof. Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si. In her presentation, she highlighted the importance of understanding the completion of the LAMSAMA accreditation instrument, including the readiness of data and supporting evidence. She also encouraged improvements in research and community service performance to meet the standards of the natural sciences and formal sciences clusters for study programs within USU.
“The accreditation process begins with the submission of documents through the SALAM system, followed by a Document Assessment (AK) conducted by assessors, an On-Site Assessment (AL), and final validation for the issuance of an accreditation certificate, with the possible outcomes of Not Accredited, Accredited, or Excellent Accredited,” she added.
The socialization concluded with a question-and-answer session and a commitment from the persons in charge at each work unit to prepare for the LAMSAMA accreditation process.
